Aston shows that it has little trouble doing what Porsche clearly can’t: build a beautiful four-door sports Car.

While we still haven’t received official information on the upcoming Aston Martin Rapide super sedan,Aston Martin has released a pair of computer-generated images following two weeks during which leaked images found their way onto the sites of numerous online publications. And though they are not actual photographs, they are revealing enough to confirm that, unlike that of the Porsche Panamera,Aston Martin’s sex-a-licious form vocabulary is indeed scalable to four-door proportions.

Essentially a DB9 coupe with an extra foot or so of wheelbase and two additional doors, the Rapide shares much of its styling DNA—long nose, ducktail deck, and stacked grille—with its saucy two-door platformmate. The Rapide also incorporates a door crease like that of the V-8 Vantage, as well as smoother cheeks and a thin strip of chrome trim on the back.

Unique to the Rapide are One-77 –style hood vents, nicely detailed headlamps with vertical LED running lights, and an all-glass roof (which, come to think of it, might be nice on the coupe, too). Inside, think DB9 with two rear bucket seats and perhaps a few unique touches and you won’t be far off.

Under the hood will be a variant of the DB9’s V-12 optimized to handle the Rapide’s additional mass, and the shifting will most likely be handled exclusively by the ZF six-speed Touchtronic automatic transmission . Considering that the updated DB9 has a claimed 0-to-60-mph time of 4.6 seconds, we imagine that the Rapide should be able to do the same trick in under five while enveloping the passengers in aural ecstasy. Not fast enough? Well, it shouldn’t take long for Aston Martin to develop an even quicker version of the Rapide incorporating some of the powertrain and material upgrades used in the DBS.

 Press Release:
"Now pay attention Bond…this is your Aston Martin!"
October 22nd 2002 – The world’s most famous spy, James Bond 007 is back behind the wheel of an Aston Martin in the latest blockbuster Die Another Day released in November 2002.

After a brief flirtation with another manufacturer, the film industry’s most enduring partnership – James Bond and Aston Martin are reunited in the 20th 007 film. For Bond - the suave immaculate British gentlemen, the consummate connoisseur - Aston Martin was and is the only choice.

It was nearly 40 years ago, that James Bond, then played by Sean Connery was introduced to his silver birch Aston Martin DB5 in the 1964 film Goldfinger. And despite Aston Martin models being present in Thunderball, The Living Day Lights and Goldeneye none of them created quite the stir of Goldfinger . The DB5 caused a tremendous amount of talk, not only because of its timeless beauty but also because of those tempting gadgets that were fitted to it.

It was in 1963, that Aston Martin loaned Eon Productions a prototype DB5 and one supporting car for additional filming. All of the famous gadgets (smoke-screen, machine guns and ejector seat) were dreamt up by John Stears of Eon Productions at Pinewood Studios.

This year, Die Another Day will see Pierce Brosnan as James Bond in a V12 Vanquish, and - as with Goldfinger - the Aston Martin plays a significant role in the film. At the start of the film James Bond is introduced to the Aston Martin just as he was in Goldfinger.

Aston Martin provided Eon Production’s Andy Smith – the man responsible for a team of engineers who created all the gadgets for the Vanquish in Die Another Day – with three standard production Vanquishes.

Alongside this, Aston Martin helped Andy Smith create four special effects Vanquish that were equipped with the gadgets - a pair of machine guns that come up through the bonnet vents, five heat- seeking missiles and a brace of shot guns that operate from the front radiator grille. These cars were also four-wheel drive and used eight cylinder engines.

The three standard production Vanquish were specifically for close-up camera work whilst the special effects cars were built solely for the spectacular stunts and chase scenes. One of the opening sequences in Die Another Day takes place on the frozen face of the Vatnajökull glacier, in southeast Iceland. The script called for Bond, driving a Vanquish, to be pursued across the ice lake by an assailant driving a machine-gun-equipped Jaguar XKR. This was where the four-wheel drive system came into good effect on the ice.

Since filming began in September 2001, Ian Minards, General Sales Manager for Aston Martin and former Chief Programme Engineer for the Vanquish, along with a dedicated team of Aston Martin Engineers have provided assistance to Eon Productions.

Ian said: "It has been a lot of hard work, but Andy Smith has his team have done a fantastic job in creating the four special effects cars. We think that Bond’s return to Aston Martin will be met with the same enthusiasm and interest as it did back in the early 1964 when Goldfinger was first released."

At the Geneva Motor Show this week, Aston Martin publicly showed its limited-edition One-77 super-car for the first time. While the design is certainly attention grabbing, the machinery sitting next to it was perhaps even more so. On the first of two press days, the Aston stand was dominated by the first complete One-77 chassis laid bare for all the world to see. Resplendent in carbon-fiber and cast, forged and extruded aluminum, the skinless One-77 is an engineer's dream.

Chris Porritt, Chief Program Manager for the One-77, took a few minutes to give us a guided tour of this remarkable example of engineering art. The mechanical bits of the One-77 are built more like the guts of an Le Mans Prototype racer than any typical production car. Of course, calling this a production car is a stretch anyway given that only 77 examples will be produced. Major automakers typically produce more prototypes than that for a new vehicle program. Follow the jump for a walk through of the One-77.

The newly independent automaker by the name of Aston Martin just revealed their new concept car, the V12 Vantage RS. The concept is based on the V8 Vantage coupe — but the engine's based on Aston's big 600bhp 6-liter racing V12. Aston claims the new performance concept achieves peak power output at 6250 rpm and peak torque of 509 lb-ft at 5000 rpm. And with the severe weight-cutting Aston's done to this concept, they're claiming the V12 Vantage RS concept is the fastest accelerating road car ever built by the company — with a 0-60 time of just under four seconds. Maybe Bond should be driving this in the next movie, eh? Full press release below the jump.
Aston Martin Unveils New Performance Concept Car

At the official opening of Aston Martin's first ever dedicated design centre in Gaydon, Warwickshire, on Tuesday 11 December, Dr Ulrich Bez, Chief Executive Officer, thrilled an audience of more than seven hundred VIP guests with a surprise unveiling of a stunning new 600bhp performance concept car; the V12 Vantage RS.

The V12 Vantage RS concept is based on Aston Martin's critically acclaimed V8 Vantage coupe, but the company's design and engineering team have fully exploited the design flexibility of their unique VH architecture and the motor sport development of their 6.0 litre V12 engine to create a dramatic and production feasible concept car focussed on extreme performance and dynamics.

In a speech to the assembled guests, Ulrich Bez said: "Over the last five years, we have established a reputation for presenting fully functional, feasible concept cars, and the V12 Vantage RS is no exception. We will listen with interest to feedback on this concept and, as ever, if there is sufficient demand then we will seriously consider a low volume production run in the near future with a price that will reflect the exclusivity of the car.

"With our dedicated production facilities, our own engine plant, our own unique vehicle architecture and now a dedicated design studio, we have the ideal framework to bring new models such as this to market and to further establish Aston Martin as the ultimate independent luxury sports car company."

Although the 600bhp power output of the V12 Vantage RS concept will be the focus of attention, just as significant is the level of weight reduction achieved by Aston Martin's engineering team. With a kerb weight of less than 1600kg, the RS concept underlines Aston Martin's continued commitment to intelligent use of materials and weight reduction as a means of achieving improved efficiency and performance. In common with the recently launched DBS, the bonnet and trunk lid are moulded in carbon fibre and the concept also adopts motor sport-inspired carbon ceramic brake discs.

The subtly aggressive exterior appearance is driven by function. The dramatic bonnet louvres extract air from the fully ducted cooling pack and the trunk lid features a deployable spoiler that rises automatically at high speeds to increase rear down force. The front bumper features cooling ducts for the carbon ceramic brakes and a carbon fibre splitter to balance down force.

Director of Design, Marek Reichman, commented: "Much of Aston Martin's recent success has come from the ability of our designers and engineers to work hand-in-hand to optimise form and function. Our new dedicated design centre will take this process to a new level and I am delighted that the V12 Vantage RS is the first car to stand on the turntable in the studio."

The 600bhp 6.0 litre engine featured in the V12 Vantage RS concept has benefited directly from the race development of this acclaimed power unit. It features a dry sump lubrication system, tuned length exhaust manifolds, forged pistons and steel con-rods, revised lift and duration camshafts and modified cylinder heads. Peak power is achieved at 6250rpm and peak torque of 690Nm is at 5000rpm.

With a power-to-weight ratio of over 375bhp per ton, the V12 Vantage RS concept is the fastest accelerating road car ever built by the company, capable of reaching 62mph (100km/h) from rest in 4.0 seconds and 100mph (160km/h) in just 8.5 seconds.

The unveiling of the Aston Martin V12 Vantage RS concept concludes a remarkable year of new product announcements for the British manufacturer. In the last twelve months the company has launched two of the most eagerly anticipated sports cars of the year - the DBS and Vantage Roadster - and announced details of the DB9 LM and V8 Vantage N400 special editions which celebrate the company's racing successes at Le Mans and the N?rburgring. All of these models now join the award-winning V8 Vantage, DB9 and DB9 Volante models in production at the company's Gaydon headquarters.

The 4-door coupe by Aston Martin's road has been completely when a test at Nurburgring, Germany. To 2010, Rapide will be available in the market to compete with Porsche Panamera.

When Aston Martin was sold to the Ford Prodrive's Dave Richards hands racing team and investors in 3 / 2007, Rapide project was ordered stopped by the leaders do not believe will succeed.

However, the experiment appeared in Nurburgring, Germany yesterday and this demonstrated, Rapide still "live", contribute to the market segment 4-door coupe are known in home.

The curve is compared to uphold the concept throughout the village since 2006. Engineers Aston Martin's long length base of DB9 to 254 mm, bringing the total length of Rapide mm to 5003 levels, equivalent to the Mercedes S-class. Rapide is 63.5 mm higher than the DB9 to create harmony as the hood is fully extended down the back.

Weight not load at about 1940 kg, weighing more than 130 kg DB9. Rapide so no advantage of speeding up. However, the maximum speed is committed to Aston Martin at 290 km / h. And speed from 0 to 100 km / h in about 4.5 seconds.

Prominently featured on the Aston Martin stand on the first day of this year's Geneva Motor show was the rolling chassis of the very first One-77 prototype. By day two it had been be removed and replaced by the unfortunate Lagonda concept. The chassis had to be returned to the UK so that the bodywork and interior could be added. This week, the finished car had its coming out party on the shores of Italy's Lake Como, home to the rich and famous.

The exterior was no surprise since we had already seen the styling buck and renderings, but this was the first time the finished interior had been shown. No doubt purchasers of the 77 examples will all have the opportunity to customize the finish, materials and color combinations before Aston Martin begins deliveries late this year. Hopefully, our friends at Aston Martin will give us the opportunity to take one for a spin before they're all gone. Thanks to Jayho for the tip!

Aston Martin will return to the starting grid of Germany’s Nordschleife for its fourth consecutive year of the Nurburgring 24-hour endurance challenge, which kicks off on May 23rd. The carmaker will be using its latest super-sports car, the all-new V12 Vantage coupe, which will be kept in near-standard specification for the event.

Behind the wheel will once again be Aston Martin CEO Dr. Ulrich Bez and representatives from the carmaker’s engineering team. Bez, who will be driving in his fourth consecutive 24-hour race, said: “This is the final engineering durability test for the V12 Vantage program. We will be subjecting the car to the toughest assessment yet under public scrutiny as we successfully did with the Vantage N24 program.

Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show last month, the V12 Vantage runs Aston Martin’s familiar 6.0L V12 engine producing 510hp (380kW) and 420lb-ft (570Nm) of torque. The only differences between the production model and the new race car are essential safety modifications, reduced weight and re-tuned suspension with no additional aerodynamic enhancements. The race car has also been fitted with Pirelli P Zero Circuit Racing slick tires to enhance performance.

Alongside the V12 Vantage will be the original yellow V8 Vantage that ran in 2006 and inspired the design direction for the Vantage N24 model and GT4 race car. This particular car has clocked up four 24-hour race finishes and more than 20,000 endurance miles.
